  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a cake pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add molasses and eggs to the butter mixture, then gradually add the dry ingredients.
  5. Mix in hot water until smooth. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  6. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let it cool before serving.
