- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 ½ cups warm water
- ½ cup baking soda
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- coarse sea salt (for topping)
- In a large bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes.
- Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth.
- Let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll the dough into ropes and twist them into pretzel shapes.
- In a large pot, bring water and baking soda to a boil.
- Boil each pretzel for 30 seconds, then place on the baking sheet.
- Brush with egg wash and sprinkle coarse salt on top.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
